Hello out there!
In my last issue, you may recall a reference to the BBC Radio Show Desert Island Discs. I played along by listing the 8 tracks I would bring too.
This week on that show, they had Cillian Murphy on as a guest.
He stars or appears in 6 Christopher Nolan films. Majority of which by the way, would make my Top 20 films ever. Feels a bit too fan boy to list his 6, Interstellar and 3 from Denis Villeneuve to make a Top 10.
Ha! A bit of an aside here.
But, anyway, where it gets interesting is that in Cillian’s track list and mine, we both have selected Radiohead’s ‘Everything In It’s Right Place.”
What synchronicity right!?
And this is not where the coincidences stop. He is Irish. Like me. Well, sort of. Half. Lineage. O’Connell’s. Irish-Canadian as they say.
In the show he also lists a traditional Irish music track that his father had given to him. Incredible. It made for an emotional moment this past Sunday listening to this song on the stereo.
See, last weekend was my mom’s 70th, and a dedicated family gathering as it was Family Day back in Ontario. Where was Jamie. Abroad.
I missed it.
I have always been drawn to bagpipes and wind instruments. I am certainly not alone in that but the last few years, I find such peace and energy in the sound of a drone.
You know that continuous note or chord held in the background. It reached me at my core. Cause I am part Irish? Or the grounding nature of the sound?
Likely, both.
It show’s up in this track from Cillian above.
It shows up in the song I have listened to most on repeat the past 5 years.
And again in one of my recent favourite films too. Can you guess which one?
This is all going to click and make sense I swear!
The reason why I am writing this today is because it all feels so interconnected. Week to Week. Where attention goes, things emerge.
Desert Island Discs. My list. Cillian’s List. The overlapping track. The drone in his other track. The drone in Dune. My goodness.
All of this to say… Monday, it’s happening.
Dune 2 on IMAX.
Excited is an understatement. But expectations in check.

You may have seen mentioned here or shared on Linkedin but I do try and keep a regular publishing rhythm on the world of work and business side of things.
I really enjoyed writing this one today. Mainly because I had 3 short reflections that I felt were not related. Turns out, they were.
And lastly, before some pics from the past month I am wondering, is this me?
