As we have covered in past issues here, there are two main things that delay the frequency of writing and posting.
1) The longer I wait to write, the harder it is to get back to it;
and
2) When something incredible or life defining happens, I make it hard for myself to follow up with something less amazing.
That said, when looking back, some of the things I take the most enjoyment out of writing are about taking the simple or mundane and uncovering meaning in them.
Like that newsletter during covid where I wrote about a chair or the one last spring about a new bakery in a former industrial zone.
The reality is there are only so many “Dune 2’s” and “first visits to the Pantheon” one can have in life.
The enjoyment of any of it is surely rooted in the the contrast between things.
It’s enjoying the hot dog at 7-11 and my favourite restaurant Woodstockholm.
It’s the Pantheon and whether the coffee cup is of proportionate size to how I enjoy my Americano.
It’s living on the road for a year and staying put for a bit.
Am I right!?
:)
At the end of April I set out to make the next 6 weeks as interesting as possible.
Be spontaneous; go out of the way when and where possible; limit routine; meet new people and create new stories.
To “increase the surface area for opportunity” as my friend Nick says.
Keeping the foot on the gas and adrenaline up fuelled my path, but as soon as I let up, the body and mind said to slow down.
So I did.
Like the winter before this spring adventure, the last month has been almost opposite in some respects to the previous stretch.
But needed, of course.
A time for just being and keeping things rather simple.
Here’s some pics from my very own Giro D’Italia; Alpine pitstop and a Scandi-spring/summer moment.
Lastly, what’s on the horizon for July and August.
Will be in south of Sweden/Copenhagen for July.
Then a long awaited return to NYC.
Plus, family & friends time back in Ontario.
Give a ping if you will be around!
Until next time, best.
